Highlander: The Series - Season 1

When I first saw the original Highlander, I was instantly hooked. The acting was terrible, the sound was almost painful, but the story was fascinating. A sprinkling of immortal beings spread throughout the world with no know source, whose ultimate goal in life was to fight through all the other for The Prize. The Prize is to become mortal and the ability to have children with all the power, knowledge and experience of all the mortals who have gone before.

Substitute Adrian Paul for Christopher Lambert, add in a few well chosen supporting characters and you have a very appealing easel on which to hang many great episodes. The tactic of doing half a season in North America and half a season Paris keeps the backdrops fresh.

With guest stars like Roger Daltry of the Who as Duncan’s friend immortal Hugh Fitzcairn, Roland Gift of The Fine Young Cannibals taking a turn as Xavier St. Cloud and Joan Jett of The Blackhearts as Felicia Martins playing evil immortals gave season one a musical flavor that continued on throughout the series.

One drawback to this DVD set is that it is not captioned. I am not deaf, but when I watch a DVD I like to use the captioning to make sure I catch every word. It makes it much more interesting.

On the whole I recommend Highlander: The Series – Season 1 for your home video collection.
